WORKSHOP:

Creative Portrait Photography

Saturday&Sunday 22.&23.03.2025 | 11:00 - 18:00 h

Fotofabrique | Valentinskamp 34, 20355 Hamburg

In this portrait workshop we want to explore and go beyond the boundaries of conventional portrait photography. The photographic portrait in all its diversity is the perfect means of realizing your own creative vision, expressing emotions or simply having fun experimenting.

We take the basics of portrait photography as a means of breaking conventions, finding new angles and distorting them.
Both through unusual staging of the subjects and through creative photography techniques (e.g. through glass, mirrors, with filters, slow shutter speeds or other tools) we leave room for coincidences and surprises to create exciting results that go beyond perfection.

The workshop will be split into two days.

On the first day, you will receive a theoretical and historical introduction and classification. We look at pictures, get inspired, brainstorm about approaches, exchange visions and ideas and plan the following day.

On the second day, we put the ideas into practice. We experiment, construct and dare to step out of our photographic comfort zone. Everyone gets time and space to let off steam. Afterwards, we will develop the films and look at the results together.

The workshop is designed for black and white photography. This also makes it easier for us to develop on site. Each participant will be provided with a black and white film and the development.

There will be 1-2 models with whom you can realize your ideas.

Prerequisites:

Basic photography and portrait experience is an advantage, but the workshop is open to participants of all levels. Fun in experimenting and openness for new things are desired.

A portrait situation should always be a safe space for photographer and subject. Therefore, openness to diversity, empathy and respecting boundaries is required at all times.

You can bring a manual camera of your choice, whether 35mm or medium format. SLR cameras are an advantage, but you can also work with rangefinders and TLR cameras or similar. It is also possible to borrow a camera from us (please ask in advance by email or phone so that we can provide something).
A selection of filters and other tools will be provided. However, if you have any ideas that you would like to implement, you are of course welcome to bring your own.

The tutor: Linus Harwig

Linus is part of the Khrome team in Hamburg. He has many years of experience with analog photography. Both artistic practice and media theory are his passion. The focus of his work lies in portrait photography. He particularly likes to experiment with unusual techniques in order to achieve unconventional results.

Maximum number of participants: 6

The course takes place from 4 booked participants. If this number is not reached 7 days before the date, the workshop will be canceled. If you are traveling from outside Hamburg, you must book with appropriate cancellation options. If the course is canceled within this period, travel costs will not be reimbursed.
