Where otherwise planes take off every minute, almost every movement has come to a standstill. The sky above the runway glows blue, the contrails have disappeared, the miserably long corridors are eerily empty. In April 2020, at the height of the first corona lockdown, the photographer Marc Krause visited Frankfurt Airport to capture the strange stillness of this "non-place" with his analogue camera.
Without the clocked hustle and bustle of regular operation, his gaze fell on things that the intoxication of movement usually swallows: the geometry of the constructivist architecture, the play of light and shadow, the remains and legacies of the travelers, who usually walk in their thousands through the huge slide halls.
The result is a fascinating insight into an almost surreal world - a disturbing contemporary document and impressive photo book that leaves the viewer between melancholy and longing hope.
